TechPak Categories Rugged, low-cost quick-release connector for outdoor applications holds gear solidly and reliably, releases with one hand In weather, over rough roads, or in heavy seas, removable equipment such as radios, GPS, toolboxes, saddlebags and similar gear must be restrained, held securely in the same position, and rapidly released when needed. The internal mechanism of the connector part of this system works to maintain positioning repeatability and rigidity, while both the connector and receiver are tapered in two planes to assure repeatable positioning. Together, the two form a rigid connection that can be unlocked and removed in a single plane, with no access to the side faces required for release. The simple internals ensure that the mechanism automatically compensates for wear over time and use, so that rigidity and repeatability of position are assured during the useful life of the device. Low cost derives from the ability to use lower-cost materials and still compensate for inevitable manufacturing irregularities through the working of the mechanism itself. Areas of application include mounting radios, phones, and other equipment on belts, ships, and other vehicles; quick-release toolkits; and in situations where dexterity may be limited by injury or heavy gloves.
