Overview:

A yet2 client is seeking technologies that can measure enzyme levels in clear and cloudy fluids over time. Ideal solutions are those which offer continuous monitoring with minimal maintenance/calibration and sampling intervention.

Background:

Enzymes are a novel solution in emerging biotechnology operations, replacing harsher chemicals in a variety of applications. Enzymes offer a more natural approach which is often safer for the environment and humans, and less damaging to equipment. However, to optimize effectiveness of enzymatic cleaning solutions, users need to understand the enzyme levels and activity throughout use.

Constraints:

The ideal solution will:

  • Be enzyme-agnostic: platform technology able to monitor a variety of enzymes with minimal technological development or alteration
  • Offer real-time monitoring: in-situ sensor with 24/7 capabilities
  • Provide quantified results at high sensitivity: 1 ppm to 25 ppm of active enzyme concentration
  • Low-maintenance: minimal requirements for calibration, consumable components, and cleaning
  • Able to handle harsh environments:
    • Must be suitable for indoor use under humid conditions with temperatures ranging from 5 to 45 °C
    • Ideally, sensor can measure samples containing enzyme between 5°C to 90°C

Possible Solution Areas:

  • Colorimetric and fluorescent detection
  • Automated assays
  • Lab-on-a-chip
  • In-line sensors and monitors
  • Biomedical devices
  • Water quality sensors

Desired outcome of the solution:

Partnership to scale up and roll out a platform solution on a global scale with our client, who is an established industry leader with a large customer base.
