Overview:
A global chemical company is seeking Farnesene producers / suppliers / development partners. Organizations must be using renewable feedstocks and/or sustainable processes to be eligible for consideration. Academic institutes with advanced expertise in Farnesene or Sesquiterpene production also considered relevant.
Background:
Sesquiterpene Farnesene has commercial applications in the production of lubricants, cosmetics, biofuels and fragrances & flavourings. Natural extraction of Farnesene results in low yields and is not sustainable. As a result, this company is seeking to identify producers, suppliers or potential partners for the manufacturing of Farnesene using
renewable feedstocks and/or sustainable processes (e.g. biotechnological fermentation).
Key Criteria:
- Producers/Suppliers: must be using renewable feedstocks and/or sustainable
processes. - Potential Partners: Technology should be lab validated with samples and supporting
data available. Ideally fermentation titers of more than 20 g/L already achieved.- Access to downstream capabilities
- Be scalable to industrial production
Possible Solution Areas:
- Sustainable/Renewable feedstocks including biobased
- Effective conversion from sustainable feedstock to make renewable farnesene
- Carbon capture and utilization
- Side stream (by-product) valorization (circularity, upcycling)
Out of scope:
- Concept stage solutions
- Solutions with a lack of supporting evidence around sustainable and renewable claims
Desired outcome of the solution:
Identification of producers, suppliers or potential development partners for commercial scale supply/production of Farnesene.
