Overview:

yet2’s client is looking to identify a software solution to automate the planning/design of brick placement within or on a complex geometric structure or surface. The software should be able to intelligently select from an extensive library of bricks in varying shapes and sizes and plot them, considering factors such as structural requirements and other engineering rules.

Background:

Our client is using bricks as a means to cover and protect the interior surface of a wide variety of structures, which can have complex 3D shapes. These bricks can be typically arranged as single or multiple layers.

Currently, determining which specific bricks to place, and where (from a very extensive set of shapes, in different materials), is a highly manual and skill-intensive process, requiring significant experience and expertise. This approach is time-consuming and prone to occasional errors and suboptimal brick placements, as well as difficulty in tracking resources for billing.

By implementing a software solution that can automate brick selection and placement, the organization aims to address these challenges, improving efficiency and reducing the need for highly skilled operators.

Requirements:

An ideal solution will:

  • Be able to map complex 3D structures of varying shape and size and provide a visual representation of final brick layout.
    • Visualizations would preferably be available in both 2D and 3D configurations, with the possibility of generating customer-ready blueprints/plans.
  • Utilize and manage an extensive library of unique brick types and sizes to optimally line a structure.
  • Provide a count of bricks used for the final bill of materials.
  • Integrate with existing commonly used 3D CAD systems (i.e. AutoCAD, Inventor)

We are also interested to learn about any existing solutions that could meet these requirements with further development.

Desired Outcome of Solution

Licensing of existing, commercially available software or partnership to optimize an existing partial solution for client use case.
